We’re glad you’ve asked! Here are answers to a number of the most common questions I receive. If you have additional questions, please feel free to call or email. We are happy to schedule a consultation to explain more about our services and what you can expect from the results.

What is the procedure or process for acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a healing procedure initiated by inserting tiny, sterile, disposable needles at specific points on the body. The precise placement stimulates healing at the source of the problem by prompting the body to refresh its healing properties.

Do I need to wear specific clothing to my appointment?

Some people like to wear looser clothing that pulls up to their knees and elbows, but feel free to come as you are. If we find that the clothing is too tight, you can undress and cover up with a warm blanket.

Why does acupuncture work on so many conditions?

The process works because we are sending a signal to the brain to release your body’s natural healing substances and rebalance the flow that has been lacking or inhibited due to stress, poor diet, injury, poor sleep, etc. We are treating symptoms, yes, (pain relief as an example), but more importantly, we are treating the underlying factors that caused the symptoms. It’s a whole-body treatment, not a masking of symptoms.

I’m not so keen on needles. Does it hurt?

No, it is not a painful procedure. In fact, most patients find it relaxing and comfortable. If there is any discomfort, we can quickly and easily re-adjust. The needles used in acupuncture are so tiny that they are smaller than a cat’s whisker. Laura has many years of experience placing these tiny, single-use needles by using a plastic tube as a guide. Doing so produces a gentle, precise, painless insertion.

Are there any precautions I should take before or after my acupuncture session?

Make sure you’ve eaten something the day of your session. It’s always a good idea to drink plenty of water and limit strenuous activity immediately after your session. Try to take it easy and let the treatment integrate.

Is it okay if I fall asleep during my session?

Absolutely! Many patients are so relaxed that they fall asleep. It’s perfectly fine. We’ll wake you!

Do you also provide services for children?

Yes, children of all ages can benefit greatly from acupuncture, acupressure and herbs. Children are some of my favorite patients!

What is the quality of herbs used for herbal therapy?

All herbs are quality controlled, temperature controlled, responsibly cultivated and sourced.

Will my insurance cover the cost of my sessions?

Depending on your state of residence and plan, some insurances may cover acupuncture. Please call your provider to inquire about coverage and how to submit your receipt for reimbursement. We are happy to provide you with an invoice or superbill for submission. If not covered, you may also be able to use your HSA or Flex account. Please ask your account manager for details.

How long are treatment sessions?

Sessions are generally one hour.

How many treatments will I need?

Each case is different. Some instances of pain or discomfort are managed in one or two sessions. Others require multiple, consistent sessions to achieve full benefits. We will discuss your specific needs and a recommended plan for success.

What type of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check or credit card.
