Acupuncture is a safe, effective healing practice for a multitude of conditions. It is a process of inserting tiny needles along specific areas of the body to stimulate your natural healing processes. Acupuncture can be used as a drug-free alternative to prescription drugs, surgeries, and pain injections that may not work or have side effects. This time-honored medical tradition has been proven effective over the centuries and is now a welcome alternative or supplement to traditional Western medicine. Reduced stress, anxiety and pain as well as boosted immune and digestive systems are among the many benefits.

4 Steps to Balanced Health with Acupuncture

1

Schedule an Appointment

During your initial visit, we’ll have a consultation to get acquainted and collect your medical history. We’ll go over any ailments or symptoms you may have and discuss areas where you’d like to see improvement. I’ll evaluate your overall condition and formulate next steps in your treatment plan. For your first visit, plan to spend between 60 and 90 minutes. Follow up visits last 1 hour.
2

Pulse and Tongue Diagnosis

The pulse is a dynamic and extremely effective tool in determining the health of your musculoskeletal system, internal organs, glands and emotional wellbeing. With three fingers placed on each wrist, I will read your pulse according to 28 variables and their characteristics.

Just like the pulse, the tongue is a microsystem of the body. Tongue diagnosis indicates how the body fluids and organ systems are maintaining their balance. Together, the tongue and pulse can point to signs of weakness, imbalance or disease before they necessarily manifest. When the imbalances are treated, the symptoms never manifest. This is preventative medicine at its finest!

3

Treatment

After our discussion and formulation of a treatment plan, you will move to a comfortable massage table to receive your treatment. The acupuncture process is simple and painless. Using a plastic guide tube, much like a little straw, tiny needles are painlessly inserted strategically on the front, or sometimes the back, of the body.
4

Relax and Heal

Your treatment has begun! The needles begin sending signals to the brain. The body responds and, within 5- 10 seconds, the body’s feel-good chemicals are released. Endorphins, enkephalin and norepinephrine begin to flow. These substances can be up to 150 times more potent that morphine! As this is happening, your blood vessels dilate and fresh blood flows, bringing with it oxygen, hormones, and natural anti-inflammatories that all go to work healing your body.

You are kept warm and cozy as you relax and let the treatment take effect. After a half an hour or so, I’ll remove the needles, and you’ll get a hug and well wishes for a wonderful week!

About Me

pink divider

Laura Ponce, L.Ac., MSOM, Dipl.O.M.

I was first drawn to acupuncture years ago after an unfortunate car accident left me with lingering pain. After trying various other therapies, I was referred to a local acupuncturist. Once I experienced the healing power of this age-old practice, I realized the magnitude of how beneficial it is. This quickly led me to pursue a four-year master’s program in Chinese medicine at Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

After graduating with a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine (MSOM), I became an NCCAOM board-certified, licensed acupuncturist and herbalist. I have further education in oncology and supportive cancer care and have been privileged to study with some of the most respected doctors of Oriental Medicine from around the world.

When not serving clientele, I enjoy the outdoors, staying active, reading, cooking and spending time with my daughter, family, and friends. I’m passionate about achieving results for my patients and have compassion for each person in my care. I’d love to help you in your journey to optimal health.
